What is the Art of Blessing
The Art of Blessing is a practical way through which we have access to the Supreme Energy of God, which we invoke for ourselves or for other human beings we want to help.
The term ‘blessing’ is the English translation of the Latin ‘benedictio’, the equivalent of the Greek ‘evloghia’ – and means ‘to speak well’, ‘to praise,’ to ‘honor,’ ‘to celebrate’. Containing the idea of word/logos, it is not just referring to a simple uttering of good things upon someone, but it’s related to the creative power of the word, to the godly Logos.
In the old days, young people asked for the blessing of their parents when they started their own path in life or when they married. Likewise, the foods given as offerings in religious celebrations were blessed by the priests who officiated the ritual. Blessing has always been the prerogative of wise men, in order to attract God’s grace to those who need it on a special occasion.
Despite widespread scientific materialism, people still continue to seek God’s protection. Perhaps one of the most impressive examples is that of April 1970 when millions of Americans prayed in unison – in the streets, on the radio and on television – at President Nixon’s appeal, for the safe return of Apollo 13 cosmonauts.
Nothing without God
More and more often, throughout the entire planet, people gather and pray or meditate together for world peace or for various other noble purposes. But not only that. Everywhere in the world, heads of state and government take their vows with their hand on the Bible, vows that end with ‘so help me God’. Celebrities make the sign of the cross before an important show, and large hospitals are necessarily endowed with a chapel and a priest.
But, more than ever, the people of today need methods. Very clear, practical, extremely easy to apply. The Art of Blessing and self-Blessing involves calling God’s Grace upon another being or upon ourselves, directly, without middlemen.
By definition, blessing is a solemn uttering, accompanied by a gesture, by which a person invokes God’s gifts upon another person, a group, or even upon themselves. The gesture can be lifting the hands on someone, putting a hand on the blessed person’s head, making the sign of the cross over them etc. There can be blessed living beings, or even dear deceased ones. Also, actions, houses, places, situations, objects, foods can also be blessed. The energy of the Spirit of God can be directed to everything, since in all of them the deification can appear.
The execution technique
The execution technique for the Art of Blessing, as revealed in the MISA Yoga School, is extremely simple. Standing, we raise the right hand (or the left one, for the left-handed) to the shoulder level, with the palm open, and with our eyes closed. Having an attitude of deep inner-centering and dedication to God, we utter, with an inner voice, a certain sacred formula, depending on the situation. After uttering the formula, we move our inner gaze into a slightly convergent strabismus, toward the top of the head for just a few moments, after which we remain in the indicated position to perceive the ineffable answer that appears. In the end, another sacred formula is being uttered to express our gratitude to God.
Formulas used in the Art of Blessing:
For one human being:
’O Lord, our Heavenly Father, I beg You full of humbleness, if this human being named … (the Christian name or names are said) deserves, bless him/her, bestowing upon him/her, through me, Your Supreme Grace. Thy Will Be Done. Amen.’
For a group of people:
’O Lord, our Heavenly Father, I beg You full of humbleness, if this group of human beings deserves, bless them now, bestowing upon them, through me, Your Supreme Grace. Thy Will Be Done. Amen.’
For Self-Blessing for men:
’O Lord, our Heavenly Father, I beg You full of humbleness, if the one who is asking You now, having the name of … (your baptism name or names are said) deserves, bless him now, bestowing upon him Your Supreme Grace. Thy Will Be Done. Amen.’
For Self-Blessing for women:
’O Lord, our Heavenly Father, I beg You full of humbleness, if the one who is asking You now, having the name of … (your baptism name or names are said) deserves it, bless her now, bestowing upon her Your Supreme Grace. Thy Will Be Done. Amen.’
For human beings who left the physical world:
’O Lord, our Heavenly Father, I beg You full of humbleness, if this deceased human being who had the name of … (the baptism name or names are said) deserves, bless him/her, bestowing upon him/her, through me, Your Supreme Grace. Thy Will Be Done. Amen.’
For God the Father:
’Lord God, Heavenly Father, I implore you with humbleness to make it so that You fully and totally manifest through my being, helping me to bless You.
Praise be to You, Heavenly Father, now and forever and for all eternity.
Amen!’
Expressing our gratitude at the end (or even later):
‘I thank Thee Heavenly Father, for making my being the vessel of Your Supreme Grace.’
What we feel, more precisely, when we do a blessing
By practicing this method, we transit through our being the Supreme Energy of God, which is beyond existence and nonexistence. This energy comes right from the almighty sphere of the Eternal Infinite Spirit of God the Father and there is nothing in the entire Macrocosm that is equal or above it. His supreme energy is almighty, omnipresent, eternal, and absolutely everything is subordinated to it.
The being who fully discovers it understands that everything is included in the macrocosmic being of God, and therefore there is nothing outside God the Father. This Energy leads us to the Unique Eternal Reality, reveals the highest spiritual truth about the ultimate manifestation of the Eternal Spirit of God.
The flow of Godly Energy flowing through us when practicing the Art of Blessing, even if it is weak at first, helps us to gradually transcend maya (the illusion, root of all pleasures and sufferings), giving us the impulse to live a pure, spiritual, beneficial life. The Supreme Godly Energy helps us to detach from all that chain us, makes us discover the godly wisdom without being affected by the vortex of life, gradually leading us to Spiritual Liberation.
It teaches us that every being is a creation of God and thus it helps grow inside of us and almost always be present in our life love, compassion, forgiveness, nonviolence and willingness to help others. It helps us to discover the nature of our Supreme Self, Atman, which is a spark of God the Father, and awakens in our being endless, unconditional love, giving us an extraordinary inner power.
Effects of the Art of Blessing
- we gradually achieve the simplicity and purity of a child, which means eliminating everything that is useless and meaningless in our life, globally, receiving instead the richness of a deified life;
- we plenary feel the joy of living, we increase our capacity to appreciate the true value of simple joys (we get to enjoy a state of relaxation, a flower, a smile etc.);
- we become compassionate towards all beings, we live in a state of cohesion with others, without despair, grudge, competition, hatred;
- we become full of understanding and goodwill towards others;
- purification of all intentions, changing destiny by transcending karma;
- perfect optimism;
- we become a generous force, able to give ourselves in the service of a superior ideal, we become able to best recognize the Godly Energy as best we can to give it to others, we acquire the ability to be a relay for others;
- complete freedom from prejudices and dogmatic, impeding concepts
- the spontaneous and natural understanding and respecting of nature’s laws, of God’s Laws;
- the obtainment a perfect sense of righteousness;
- we understand much better, in an intuitive way, all beings and especially the ones of the opposite sex.
But perhaps the most important aspect for beginners is that, through the Art of Blessing, anyone can directly and firsthand convince themselves, in their inner being, that God truly exists.
